Don't tell me!

Someone WORKING in NL (and thus NOT living there) has to be insured TWICE!
Once in the country (s)he lives in, and once in NL. Why is that? This is fucking the EU! One shouldn't be insured twice.

Besides, you pay hundreds of €uros per month, and what do you get in return? Nothing.
Comparison:
  • Naïk pays €100+ PER MONTH for Dutch Health Insurance.
  • I pay €17.50 per 3 MONTHS!

And there's a "own risk" of €500 in NL in this case.
In Belgium I only pay the "personal quote" (REM-geld)

And I decide where I go, not some (expensive) insurance bloke in an ivory tower, like in NL.

Sorry, but in that respect I have to say Sipy is right, as is AP.

For housing, once I knew I wanted to live in Utrecht, I had registered myself ONE YEAR in advance in order to find some living space. And that was rather short. If it weren't for my handicap, I'd have travelled Best - Utrecht and back every day. (with the cost of the NS....)

Just my 2 c€nts.

but you know that some regions are just more popular then others, that we all can not live in the centre of Utrecht does not mean there is a housing problem there
I know people who had a house in Utrecht in 2 months, just because they are not to lazy to ride their bikes to the university
my brother just has to react on a house here in Amersfoort and he will get it, because he is on the list for like 9 years now, he signed in at 18

What I get in return for my insurance

  • "the pill"
  • Vaccinations if I am going to travel (which I might do next summer)
  • 20% reduction
  • physiotherapy for my leg (I believe 16 visits)
  • €100 ,- for glasses or lenses every 2 years (yeah Q, I know that is less than you pay for 1 glass, but admit it, you are a special case in this one)
  • dentist costs insured (ff in het nederlands, de hoekjes van mijn voortanden
boven, hoewel ik er nu 1 stukje af laat omdat het toch niet blijft zitten omdat het gewoon heel moeilijk te repareren is)
  • 200 euro voor steunzolen elke 2 jaar (dunno what steunzolen are in english)
  • Mijn eigen risico is 150 euro
  • I can decide where I want to go two. Better yet, if the hospital in
Amersfoort gets moved to the north of Amersfoort, I can actually choose which hospital I want to go to, Amersfoort, Utrecht (diakonessen) or Ede

Steunzool = arch support. (dit ter zijde)

OK. The Christelijke Mutualiteit / Mutuelle Chrétienne pays following:
  • "the pill" (under 18 totally for free!!!) (not for me of course, but hey, I should mention it)
  • Vaccinations (the prescription) and the doctor prescribing/giving it!
  • Physiotherapy (kine called here, 9 sessions with prescription, prolonged with another 9 sessions)
  • €45 per 5 years :( for glasses. (and true, that's WAY too little for sighted people who are handicapped in that way as I am)
  • All hospital admissions(?). REGARDLESS where I'm going. I can go here in Overpelt, but for the same reason go to Charleroi or Brussels.
In Belgium there is no "own risk", you pay your own personal quotation. (REM-geld, you can say "BRAKE money", like the brakes of your car)
For hospitalisation, you can have an extra insurance. Mostly your employer will pay for such an insurance though.

And... better docters (mark, these are NOT my words though)

An acquantance of a colleague of Naïk went for her neck. Apparently a nerve is blocked or whatever. No feelings in her arms/feet.
Finally the docter tells her to go to G(h)ent, she goes, and yep, the solution. Something was squeezing her nerve there.
They "repared" it and now all is OK.

Now, as I said, not my experience, nor my words, so....

(but I might find out sooner than I like though)

Which proves that you have no clue and still you bitch around! I was never trying to find a living place in the center of any bigger town. I am searching in the smaller places around and I wouldn't mind at all going to university 1-2 hours every day if I just get a fucking roof over my fucking head for that! Ask people first about their intentions before you judge them!

Besides, we're not all that 'crazy' like me, going to travel 2 hours (one way) to go to work/Uni, and 2 hours back?

I'd also look in the area, if I were Sipy, but if I couldn't find any, I'd go further.
But certainly you can't expect her to live in Leeuwarden/Groningen for that matter! We all know (very well) how expensive NS is.
