Morning everyone!

I slept like crap last night and didn't get half the stuff done that I had planned for the weekend but otherwise I guess it was alright.

I went to the effort of copy/pasting all Rammstein lyrics into a Word document, and decided to translate word-for-word as they stood. Then I decided things would get done quicker if I utilised the Ctrl+F function. It seems to be a good idea for really common words since I can't just put "replace all" as that wouldn't work. I wonder if this is actually a good idea after all, and whether or not I will learn anything after I close the program?

Also why are there so many words for "a"/"an"??????

Because German has a gender for everything - unlike english. So they have 3 ways to say 'the' and due to this also a bunch to say everythign else related to the word. I never figured out why all windows are female, all cars are neutral and all dogs are male (I think). Just seems unnessesarily complicated to me. French and other latin based languages are the same but only male/female.

we used to do the same in the dutch language (since it's also a germanic language) but they stopped doing this like a hundred years ago(?)
We still have a couple of sentences where it turns up though...
but I'm glad we just use "de" "het" and "een" and not all the german stuff...

The genetive is used relatively often though.
