She saw the green shopping bag, put it aside and started filling plastic bags with my groceries :KO: I then brought it to her attention and then she asked me if it would all fit in my shopping bag

This is why I pack my own bags. People who work at the supermarket don't get paid enough to give a shite about my stuff and weather or not they crush my bread or crack my eggs. I go through the 'self serve' line and mute the volume on the machine too just so I don't have to listen to it :p

I went to the effort of copy/pasting all Rammstein lyrics into a Word document, and decided to translate word-for-word as they stood. Then I decided things would get done quicker if I utilised the Ctrl+F function. It seems to be a good idea for really common words since I can't just put "replace all" as that wouldn't work. I wonder if this is actually a good idea after all, and whether or not I will learn anything after I close the program?

Also why are there so many words for "a"/"an"?????? :KO:

Because German has a gender for everything - unlike english. So they have 3 ways to say 'the' and due to this also a bunch to say everythign else related to the word. I never figured out why all windows are female, all cars are neutral and all dogs are male (I think). Just seems unnessesarily complicated to me. French and other latin based languages are the same but only male/female.

Ah ok, thanks :)

Damn it, now I'm gonna have to go back and colour-code gender words :o

we used to do the same in the dutch language (since it's also a germanic language) but they stopped doing this like a hundred years ago(?)
We still have a couple of sentences where it turns up though...
but I'm glad we just use "de" "het" and "een" and not all the german stuff... :p

The genetive is used relatively often though.

And quicker than you think, heer AP.
Want 's morgens ben ik vertrokken,
's middags weer teruggekeerd.
's Avonds eet ik,
en 's nachts slaap ik.

En dat doet de Commissaris des Konings ook,
voorheen de Commissaris der Koningin genoemd.

And I can go on like that. :p
