And our taxes on alcohol are getting more ridiculous every year.

Be glad you don't live in Scandinavia (Norway is the worst)
Alcohol isn't sold but by State shops/stores. And the price is set. (rediculously high in Norway, as gnoff said once, most Norwegians go to Sweden just to buy alcohol!)

Do drunken european metalheads count as another culture?
I do try to see cities in between drunken festivals. Still haven't been to Switzerland, Spain, Norway or Finland so hopefully cross a couple of those off the list next year too.

I was in Sweden ten years ago. Yeah, it felt like going to the DMV to get booze and the price in bars was ridiculously high. We're not that bad yet but we're trying.
I heard one brewer down here is lowering the alcohol content in its beers to avoid this years new taxes. Thankfully it's not beers I drink.

I couldn't find a shop to sell alcohol in Finland, then again I didn't know where to look either. But my state is taxing alcohol, but not that bad.
