Hahaha. I've never heard it called it that. I'm using it next time this comes up in a convesrsation.
Every time I see someone doing that I think of The Simpsons episode where Bart and Lisa are fighting upstairs.
"Alright well I'm going to walk around the room swinging my arms like this and if you happen to get hit it's your own fault".

I just made that up trying to think of what it looks like.

And, that's how it seems to be. At the first show I went to I got smacked in the face by one and it broke my nose. I could understand it, if it wasn't for the fact I wasn't remotely near the mosh pit.

I don't understand the purpose of it really. Moshing is fun and is a good way to meet people at shows. However, doing that just injures people. What a great way to meet somebody: punching him in the face!

at the Death Angel show down here this year I noticed security being really cool. After the gig security actually thanked us for all being cool. the guy said he never wanted to work another Parkway Drive gig again. They're an ok band but they draw the worst crowds in this country. It's just a sea of flying fists and kicks. and they can do 3 shows in a week with over 1000 at each in the bigger cities. Apparently after working at that a week before a bunch of metalheads jumping over each other wsa like a holiday for him.

Goths here don't listen to Nightwish really at all it's Cradle of Filth, Cannibal Corpse, Slipknot, occasionally Immortal and sometimes bands like Bullet for my Valentine. What's funny is, I ran into one that said he likes black metal, but he didn't know who any of the bands I gave him were, he didn't even know who Burzum was.
I've seen that before too. Once at a mall, I was with this kid who was wearing a Nile shirt. Some girl who looked like she just walked out of Hot Topic complimented him. He saw this as an opportunity to expose her as a fake. He asked her what her favorite album was and she said, "Annihilation of the Wicked." That's what his shirt said so that was what she said. He asked her what other albums she liked and just stood there with her mouth open for like five minutes. And regarding the whole Burzum thing, claiming to like black metal and not knowing Burzum is like claiming to be an Iron Maiden fan and not knowing Number of the Beast.

Yea, it can be.

I've been hearing problems where the bands and crowd will gang up against security at some of the shows.

Bands are usually pretty careful about that here. a while back while headlining a festival, Limp Bizkit told the crowd not to let security in there. It reulted in a girl dying after having a heart attack in the crush. The band fled the country the next day and only appeared at the court inquest by satelite.

you will see that ands say something if security are getting unneccesarily violent with the crowd though, usually when it's guard bullying younger kids.

Yea, the hardcore bands tend to get aggressive and physically attack the security sometimes. Not so much at the venues here because security is usually pretty cool. That's one of the things I do like here, the security aren't Nazis, they only get involved when they're needed, though sometimes they go anal on cameras being used.

It's a shame somebody had to die to get them to not do that. I hope that doesn't end up happening over here.

Agreed. I feel that in a lot of cases, security actually creates more problems than they prevent. Holly can tell you, that happened at an Exodus show once. While I think Rob Dukes sucks donkey dick as a vocalist, according to Holly, he actually convinced security to let some kid back in that they kicked out.

In Chicago. And, he convinced them by starting a mini riot.

What reason is there for this? Only once have I heard about poor security members abusing their power. Most of the time they just ensure crowd control and public safety for the venue. It doesn't make the band more badass by trying to fuck with the people that are just there doing a job.

I think I remember reading about that at the time. Exodus are one of my favourite live bands ever. Would have loved to have seen them with Baloff but I do prefer Dukes over souza myself.
Wacken last year is still one of my favourite shows ever. I heard the band are releasing the whole set on DVD soon.

Yeah I haven't seen much of it personally. I definitely think that concerts need some sort of security, but sometimes security goes way the fuck overboard and abuses their power. That's where my argument about security sometimes causing more problems than they prevent comes in. I haven't seen it personally but it has happened.

BTW, this is me and Holly's local friend Carl!

There was a video on youtube with it, but they were asked by the venue to take it off. I went to that venue where it happened, the security are really bad there. I could understand the bands getting involved there, but in a productive manner like Exodus.

Yeah, I've seen both sides of the debate. Sometimes bands just do it to look like they're tough and 'on the side of their fans' when really security are just doing their job but thankfully I've seen bands step in when security do get out of hand. Some guards who aren't used to mosh pits and crowd surfing over-react, they aren't always warned about what they're going to be dealing with.
