:D And even the new Felix' were not of much use I heard.

True that. And also other languages e.g. German, English have Latin influences if not roots.

well yea they do, but they're mostly anglo saxon. Those others are still way closer to latin. In the anglo saxon languages you mostly only notice the latin influence by technical terms.

Well you can ask Kris about learning German. Or Quark. They don't know cases from their language so it's really tough for them to imagine them.

I could do the cases, just never remember genders. There just never seemed any system to it, why is "the door" this gender and "the universe" that gender? Am I really expected to remember a gender for every fucking noun there is?

In the end I just gave up and to this day I always just guess. hell 1/3 of the time i'm right :D

Yeah, I know. I visit once a Sophomore English Class and they just talked about roots of and influence on the English language. Was quite interesting. :)

Also im Regel sind a- und o- Deklination maskulin, ebenso die konsonantische, aber dann gibt's Ausnahmen und die MUSST du lernen... - Originalzitat. So oder so aehnlich.
ja ok, in Latein gibt es mehr Regeln es zu erkennen. Nur keine Regeln warum die Worte diese Geschlechter haben.
So is it all just etymology? I mean, what about new words that get introduced? It seems so arbitrary to me.
Yea, kinda. New words like from English can be used with any gender, but it happens that one gender seems to fit better by another and becomes more common.
