Come to think of it, it is actually true. But the same could be said for germans.
Well if you look at it that way it should be true for nearly every tribe, nation, country etc.
What is the english word for Völkerwanderung??
Btw: Isn't it intersting that the Saxons and Franconians where named after their main Weapon...

Don't know, actually. But not for all of them, no. The Basks for example, or the skandinavians (they were first settlers). The Völkerwanderung mixes it all through. I consider what some may call "german" a mix of celtic, roman, germanic and slavic people.

Come to think of it , I guess I'm even more advanced and consider everyone german who was born here. But that is not the point at the moment.

I'll take a look for Völkerwanderung.

In time of history, this is very interresting (In Norway "Folkevandringstiden")
There are a lot of remains and interresting stories of how the Norwegians (before the vikings) defended themself against those wanderers. I have been to some old fortresses, but it's not much standing left...

Well, a big part of the Völkerwanderung (online dictionaries suck very much, I'm not finding THE wors, there has to be one) was german (or goth, buthey do speak a germanic language) tribes moving into Poland and Northern Germany. I mean, that mostly started it, and when the Hunns entered the game a few hundred years later a lot of chaos had already happened.
