Didn´t know he´s into tattoo designs as well, but I´m sure he will have some good designs 
Otherwise think about something which a) looks good and b) means something to you. Then search for pix of the design and decide about the style you wanna have, then search for a good tattoist who is good in doing this style and give him all the collected material. He should be able to do something unique for you then
And don´t try to save money, go and get the best tattoist you can find!
