Next year, myself and a few other artists are interested in making and selling apparel and merchandise at Wacken. We are a group of printmakers who make woodcuts and print them on shirts and jackets, etc... Below, I will give you a few links to give you an idea of what we do, specifically.
What we need is the price of setting up a merchandise/vending booth, if it's even possible and any other relevant information that might help us get the wheels in motion for doing this venture (next summer). We're all highly skilled artists who are very serious about bringing our craft to the masses. Most importantly, we are huge fans of heavy music. In essence, we are VERY serious about doing this in conjunction with heavy metal shows/festivals. Basically, what we do is woodcut, relief prints using techniques that date back to the Medieval age and the birth of the printing press. Most importantly, and unfortunately, this is a way of art making that is dying and we are striving to keep it alive. Over the course of the next year, we will be asking several well known printmakers who specalize in woodcuts and relief printing to start working on blocks that will be
used to print on shirts and selling them for very reasonable prices.
And we would love to do this in Germany, which is where the first, ever, printing press was created by Johannes Gutenberg. It's something that we're passionate about and to bring it full-circle, back to Germany would be amazing. We will also be documenting our experience and using it for educational purposes because many of those involved are also teachers. It will also be used to educate people at the festival about woodcut printmaking. So, we will need to know what has to be done in order to permit filming of our work at the festival. It will only be designated to us.
One of the artists that we will be bringing is Tom Huck. He's done work for numerous bands but, most notably, he's done some work for MOTORHEAD. And he's going on the road with them in November for a week to get to know them and he will then be doing special, limited edition prints for them that will be used for apparel. What I'm getting at is that he's no slouch and he's probably one of the most sought after woodcut printmakers in the United States and beyond, showing his work nationally and internationally.
Tom will probably be the person that we will put in charge of this endeavor because of his skills and his business model. He has a large printing facility in St. Louis, Missouri and he also has the equipment that we will be using.
