Face it, Belgium is a more death metal oriented country than a major black metal manufacturer. But that doesn't mean there is no talent to be found, and somewhere between the French fries with mayonnaise and waffles, we have tons of new comers and genre pioneers who are keeping the spirit of black metal alive and well. Huldrefolk belongs to the first group, and while I already was impressed by their strictly limited demo, ⌠Eeuwenhout■ took all of it to another level, production wise that is.

The description I found on their label and their site was filthy and hateful, but this band has more to offer than your regular blastbeat-replicas. The atmosphere crawls around discographies from Burzum to Nargaroth to old Mayhem, just to name a few simple comparisons. It's like they say, less is more, and Huldrefolk is an outstanding example for that statement. And I don't think I have to mention that there is no original magic present, but they somewhat stand out from many bands, especially with their acoustics like on ⌠Galgenlied■ and semi-dark, dejected ⌠Pest Alchemie■ which indeed was on their debut demo, together with the previous mentioned song and ⌠Gemene Gronden■. If you translate the last one, you get Evil Grounds and basically, the whole album feels like that. It's like you're on a forbidden spot where no one is allowed and you still feel the excitement because of the adrenaline, like you're a disobeying twelve year old kid doing something you shouldn't do. But the problem is, no one sees you, the danger is too low to keep the enthusiasm high. ⌠Eeuwenhout■ is full of considerable sphere with every instrument clear to hear, but dumb speed is missing. They seem to like weed more than vodka, because there are more slow, stoned reactions than tight boundary-less, aggressions here. Though the drumming on ⌠Alkoholokaust■ comes close to an explosion but what for sure would be a better outfit is a Panzer Division Marduk pull-over. On the current moment there is too much atmospheric sadness, and too less devastating pugnacity. What they do now is of course by any meanings excellent, but with a different dimension their next album will be the Belgian bm release of the year, and if something comes close to take that place in this year, it's ⌠Eeuwenhout■.

This is the Promo CD of came out from Belgium hordes. They was have an most dark and pure raw black metal touch. Huldrefolk means of hidden race. In Scandinavian mythology Huldrefolk are ugly nasty creatures who feast upon stolen children and spread fear upon the peasants. Their is a influenced by old Mayhem, Burzum, Nagaroth...in the Norwegian black metal vein. This CD will contain 12 fast and darkest raw tracks. The songs of cold rawest riffs, good rhythm change, strong and evil vocal, good drum work and some have a dark atmospheric sadness. (They call their own genre "Medieval Trollish Pestkult") I can say, is a good promo CD, may sound good. If you're into the like old Mayhem, Burzum, Nagaroth, Darkthrone, this stuff is for you!! Simply great!! 7/10

HULDREFOLK - Eeuwenhout
