Yeah.."Gruss Gott" that's the Austrian way to say Good morning..it's really the most stupid way to say good morning I've ever heard. Imigene you're an Austrian Atheist and still you're saying "greet god"..that's quite sick if you ask me

its not only Austrian, but also common in Southern Germany...
fuck, I´ve forgotten the Turkish word to say good morning. It was kinda the same, they have a moslemic thing and another one used by not-so-religious people...

Baveria and Baden-Wurtemburg are catholic I believe..it has something to do with a few religious wars around 1600

I don't know, it sounds like one of those things that has become so cliche over the course of years that it's really lost all its religious meaning (similar to "Bless you!/Gesundheit" when someone sneezes or "God forbid!"). Though I suppose it's something worth worrying about if you're a militant atheist and you don't want to appear two-faced.
