Yes, Varg are great!!!!!! I was quite disappointed for Solstafir as "viking metal band", but now with Varg and Tyr it's all right (with Ensiferum it would be perfect)!

Not a bit.
Viking Metal is a variation of Black Metal with slight folk influences (in some melodic parts).
Bathory's "Hammerheart" is a good example.

And what's Pagan metal then? Same thing but more folk, less black?
Personally I consider them close enough, no need to get technical.

Viking metal tends to have more viking themes I think.
I consider them two separate genres.
Pagan is basically viking metal with less vikings
