Ok so, this is a bit confusing. My german is really lousy and google translate is usually not that correct so I'd appreciate if anyone could clarify.

I have a ticket that was bought by my friend a few years ago (just after the last wacken). Can I just show up on the festival with the ticket-pdf, get my wristband and add money to this chip-thing? Or do I have to jump hoops and start creating ID's and linking the ticket to them even before I get to the festival site?

Your name is on the Ticket?

Do the tickets have our names now? I have absolutely no idea. My friend ordered the tickets. I've been to Wacken a few times but I don't remember ever having a named ticket. I'll have to ask my friend.

Ok, I got a screenshot from my friend. He told me he has converted our old tickets to digital ones, and in the screenshot my name is next to a ticket (and a ticket number - and it says "active").

So based on this I'd say yes, my name is on the ticket. But I still don't quite understand what this has to do with my original question 😀

the analog way:
Ticket with name and ID card -> Band with Chip
Top Up Desk -> Load the Chip
Beer station: Unload the Chip.

Digital way:
Your Ticket in your Wacken.ID Account, add €€€ to your Ticket code online.
Read for Beer.

Thank you for this!

Now I can feel safe knowing that the beer will flow without any further digital gimmicks. Now I just have to wait the remaining one and half weeks...

There are TWO options!

Option ONE: You don't do anything at all. You recieve your wristband, with a chip on it attached! You go to the charging booth, pay the amount you want to put on your chip, pay the amount (+€3 the first time), and you're good to go.
Option TWO: You take the number on the ticket, and create a Wacken ID. (but since you're already on the FORUM, you should already have one! Use that ID, it'll work as well), charge the amount you want to put on your chip, pay with either PayPal, or credit card, and hop, you're good to go.
Upon arriving, you'll recieve (once again) your wristband with chip attached to it, only this time, it's already charged.

(and since I'm not going, I cannot help you with the topping process, I lack a ticket number)

I read on the Cashless page, that top ups can be done in cash or with an EC/credit card.

As everyone outside of Germany does not have access to an EC card, please can you confirm that you will permit the use of Matercard, Visa and American express as top up options.

Quick info: what Germans call EC card, is called Maestro in the EU. (Depending on where you're from)

And AFAIK, I think, it's only VISA or Mastercard. No AmEx. Bit as I'm not going myself, I cannot verify this.

And PayPal also. Which can be linked to anything you want. Bank account, credit card of any kind.

This is the problem, EC and Maestro card is not available in UK outside of EU.

Mastercard will no longer issue Maestro-branded cards. New cards, renewals, and replacements of all Maestro-branded cards will be replaced by Mastercard products. Banks and other card issuers will no longer issue Maestro cards. Instead they will need to issue Debit Mastercards

My question is for the onsite top up machines, do these accept other cards ?

Problem on site, if there is no internet or 3/4G or WiFi this prevents a person getting to the internet to add top-up and if machine only accepts EC or Maestro then no to up is possible.
