Best place to stay in Hamburg?

Me and 3 friends are coming to Germany and we need a place to stay in Hamburg for the days around Wacken(we're camping at wacken while it's on).

We booked the Hotel Hafen for when we arrive but it costs a bit so we can't stay there again. I was looking at other hotels (These 2: http://www.venere.com/nh-hotels/ham...al=2#information;eur;swa20100809,20100810,4,2 or http://www.venere.com/mercure-hotel...al=2#information;eur;swa20100809,20100810,4,2 ) as they are 2 of the cheaper ones I can find(3 star hotels seem just a costly wtf?) but I'm not sure of the area they are in.

I was told to stay away from Steindamm and the areas around it so does anyone know a nice, fairly cheap hotel not in those areas in Hamburg? Are those 2 hotels I said ok?

3 stars hotel, suite for 3 ppl, 104€. I was there last 2 years, it's a 30 m2 room... last year, we slept 9 ppl in it. You have a metro station just crossing the street, and it's like 7 mins walking to Hamburg main train station.
