I guess you actually have to stay at the place of the person that invited you.

I don't think so.... but matter is, all this invitation thing in general is much easier said than done

Last time I checked, the rules here were such, that I cannot even invite my mom to stay with us ....oh well.

As I said, the easiest (and quickest) solution for the threadstarter would be, to find a hotel in Hamburg or elsewhere.

The matter is, that the law for invitations is as such that you must have about 7000€ on your bankaccount! In addition you must give proof of it to the foreign department.
1rst. problem: Collect that much money...
2nd.aper War - might possibly take months to get it approved...
3rd.: Waking sleeping dogs at the fiscal department.
The latter is actually not that much of a problem... .
