There will be fruit coming out of our ears not to mention everything else My mother goes completely overboard with food when she's entertaining and Christmas is the main culprit. Then her brothers bring food and oh my God

Must be quite a different looking Christmas dinner than we are used to here considering we really can't get many of the 'summer' foods now Do you still cook Turkey?

The government employees take days off that they consider holidays - like our remembrance day - but that are NOT considered "holidays" by the province. Everyone else (who is not a government worker) has to work on those days.. so for those I do not get paid. I can't go in to work because no one is here so I am forced to take the day off without pay.



Because I work in Ontario I am paid only for holidays that are recognized here but yes you have it right.

Complicated system.

The same on Nov 15. All federal services are closed, just because it's the King's Day, which isn't celebrated at all in Belgium!

But that's all got to do with the regional/community holidays.

And Nov. 2 is also closed for federal services. For one reason or another. (All Souls, no one celebrates it anymore)

We'll just say Government workers are not very well liked here because most of them are lazy and take advantage of anything they can. It's virtually impossible to get fired once you are hired by the government so basically these people have a job for life, a big pension and a bunch of paid time off PLUS they get paid very well - much better than anyone working in a private sector job ever would for the same work.
