This is the point where I try to figure out what NOT to bring. Now my packing list is going to include a crepe sized non-stick pan and flipper. I guess there should be a bunch of crap I can send home with my mum. Not much comes to mind.

I've never been bothered to try and look for the grocery store in the village itself before...partly because knowing me I'd never find it and partly because there would be loads of people there. All the supplies I've ever brought I got in Hamburg and if needed, I put it in the minibar of my hotel room overnight (empty minibars are the best
).
