70K Before Wacken 2013

I have a 'stupid' phone. It makes calls and does texts. I am happy with that! It does not even have a SIM card. It would be nice if it did so that I can use it there but now I have to find another way to communicate with people at WoA. If anyone has any good ideas please feel free to share them. Right now I am hoping to meet people but I have no idea how we will communicate.

Get a cheap prepaid GSM phone (with a SIM card). I don't know if your carriers always lock your phones like they do here, but if it's locked, unlock it (sometimes your carrier will do it if you call them). Then order a German SIM card off Ebay, so you get cheap rates.

That's what I did, except I already had a GSM phone.

And if it is unlocked, I can easilly get one SIM card before you leave. (I'm there in May, but can easilly go earlier to Aix-la-Chapelle/Aachen if needed)

That will still require me to have access to a phone /computer with skype We are coming from Canada so are going to be limited to what we can bring with us. My boyfriend's phone can do email but only when we can find access to a reliable (and free) wireless access point. Does WoA have a wireless network available by chance?

You can't communicate with anything while you don't have a SIM in your cell phone. Most won't activate, but warn you that no SIM is inserted.

Or if it works without a SIM, you need a RELIABLE WiFi, which is hard to find.

I was thinking maybe we can buy a phone from Germany or whatever and just get it shipped to us but I don't know if that would work. We'd probably get stuck buying a plan and we can't get my boyfriends phone unlocked - they won't do it and I don't think he can either.

They do, however I don't know if it's free or not.

Hmm, i don´t think so. I guess it´s hard to find an free accesspoint.

Just make sure you can recharge it with a creditcard ONLINE! If you have to call to hotels etc. €15 isn't that much!
And you don't want to be stuck with an empty card outside of Germany! (Where you can't find a recharge card!)

Where were you going to? (whole trip)
It did include Belgium. Easy access to a new SIM. But more expensive in DE though.

The whole trip includes France also. So it will be France, Belgium and Germany. I don't mind if we have to pay a little bit to have the WiFi at WoA, as long as it's reliable.
