We'll just say Government workers are not very well liked here because most of them are lazy and take advantage of anything they can. It's virtually impossible to get fired once you are hired by the government so basically these people have a job for life, a big pension and a bunch of paid time off PLUS they get paid very well - much better than anyone working in a private sector job ever would for the same work.
Some people I've worked with deserve to get fired or disciplined (mostly for doing things like literally nothing) but I think the worst that happened is they "moved" to another district. On the other hand some work extremely hard just to keep the place afloat. Before the former government ran out of money it seemed the only way to get fired from state health was to be linked to 87 patient deaths and fuck up over 100 other surgeries but only after being dobbed on several times.I'll take green - like Alix - lucky Aussies.. of course they have cold summers! I need to win the lottery so I can go to Australia for the winter and Germany for the summer )
The weather down there is too screwed up for me; completely unpredictable. The coldest Christmas I can remember here was in 2010 and it got up to 25C, however it was so humid we could have easily slipped on the floor tiles and we couldn't see our reflection in the mirror, the minimums were only 22C and it hadn't stopped raining for about a month. It was pretty much the same weather for that whole month and it pretty much continued until most of the state had flooded. So trueSome people I've worked with deserve to get fired or disciplined (mostly for doing things like literally nothing) but I think the worst that happened is they "moved" to another district. My family doesn't go with a Christmas dinner but rather an extended Christmas lunch. Sometimes turkey is on the menu but generally it's usually (for lack of a better work) a buffet of food. Starting with drinks and snacks for an hour or two while we catch up and wait for everyone to arrive, then we grab our plates and pile food on there, then dessert, then fruit/ cheese/ biscuits/ coffee/ tea, then we watch a movie/enjoy our Christmas gifts. Always ends with whomever makes it to the couch first falling asleep from all the food and no-one wanting dinner.

sounds like a good time...
Christmas is good for many things: That's an old pic. (and in view of the licence plate, it is in NL, or that car happens to be a tourist)
Same thing everywhere...
it's on all the newssites right now saying cars slipped of the "afsluitdijk"
I'm just really glad they decided to keep my position after the new government cut a whole bunch. Most of them weren't filled anyway, many others were only temporary positions as well, but corporate office especially were cut down big time.

Oh yesChristmas is good for many things:
New clothes for the year (apart from band shirts and emergencies I rarely buy my own clothes)
New DVD's
Surprise cool things
Family
Food
Almond bread
...and this particular ice-cream dessert thing that my dad makes but I forgot the name of it! It has a layer of chocolate ice-cream with rum-soaked raisins and a layer of vanilla ice-cream with glace cherries.
I don't know why everyone is so into x-mas.
It's the time of the year I'd like to get passed by asap! Everyone being hypocrite, in saying: "LET'S MAKE PEACE!!!", and the next day it's like: "LET'S START A WAR (again)!"
Sorry, it's either all or nothing at all. In this case: nothing at all.
