Especially if one of those in-laws is trying to tell me how I have to live my life! And most certainly not if this in-law is too lame to make a 500km trip (return) but wants me to be there on a too specific hour. ('cause it has to leave)

Believe me, I wouldn't have chosen the relatives of mine, but I don't care because I can choose if I get to know them at all. My friends I can only "choose" in some way. When you chose someone to be your friend and they grew close to your heart, it's really hard to cut them out just because they changed.

That's true. You can't chose your relatives, but you can chose not to see them (too often/at all/whatever fits best)

Your friends on the other hand... you hope them to be close because you chose them to be close to you. And if that breaks, that's way more difficult than your relatives. I have to agree.
