I didn't know a thing about phones either until I started planning for my second Europe trip in 2010 right as my first phone was crapping out on me (useable but that was about it). Then I figured I might as well get a phone I could use in Europe, without paying insane roaming fees. That's when I did a ton of internet research because my carrier only has GSM on a very very very select amount of phones. Learned about GSM, CDMA, quad bands, SIM cards, unlocking, using foreign SIM cards, and so on. :D

I still have that phone. It's been great for what it is. I just want more. :p

you sound like a computer geek now :D

:D

I do, since I've wanted a smartphone for ages. :p I've been keeping my eye open. Also I'm an electronics nerd. I even work with electronics at a store now. :D

Ah true. Though I work with the bastards every day my mind switches off when anyone tries to explain anything electronic to me. I know "on", "off", "forwards", "backwards", "sideways" and "type really fast". That's about it :D

All that research paid off. The phone worked flawlessly in Europe, and here too. And now it was the foundation to help me get a new job. Win-win. :D

(yes, I do feel like ranting a bit)

I take that as a compliment. :D

It's going to take me awhile to get used to actually using a smartphone. I might know all about them, but I've only ever used them a handful of times. :o And usually that was just for looking up something online.

Now I guess I just have to choose between three models of the phone I want. Two are extremely similar and international versions, the other is still very similar but has a few differences. And that's after narrowing it down from about 10-12 models total. :o

Maybe I'm the only one to care about such things, but why not take a look? :D

When I ran out of credit I just messaged my brother on facebook and asked him nicely if he could buy me more credit then give me the info in a private message. He bought me $100 worth of credit which lasted a bit more than 6 months after I came back from Europe :D I'm so cheap :p

On an unrelated note, I'm enjoying Sabaton's new album immensely.

Poltava and The Carolean's Prayer are currently my top two favorites. Though A Lifetime of War would have made it top three if I hadn't already overplayed it since it was released earlier. :o

On my current "regular" plan, I'm on a contract on my parents' family plan, so I don't worry about any of that. When I went to Europe, I just got a card loaded with 15€ and that was enough for the three weeks I was there. Maybe a euro at most was left.
