Yes that's true. But here it's mainly Metalcore that is in the mainstream, true metal is still mostly underground. The fact that my nephew whose only 15 loves it is really amazing to me and not the normal thing at all here.

As far as the non metalcore bands are concerned, only a few are well know here. Maiden, Priest, Slayer, Sabbath, the bigger names. Pretty much no one whose not a real metalhead would know of a band like Brainstorm or Nevermore.

well, it is a normal thing over here, that children know underground metal. I personally hate that, because they have no idea of what it means. They are just like: I listen to Iron Maiden, I am cool.. they turn the music loud at their cells and sit like that at the bus or walk the town. it's embarresting

no, you can get a warm shower for like one Euro or someting. But as I said you'll normally have to wait like 2 hours...
