not a pure "W" sound as in english. I mean of course they can make that noise, but you wouldn't hear it in normal words.

actually it is the other way around, the german sound is more "pure" as you call it then english, since english is a language which is derived from another one, you none of your sounds are "pure"
but German on the other hand is more like the "mother language" to different other languages (like Dutch)
