trepang had to be boiled, then buried in snad to remove calcium carbonate, then they would have to smoke the trepang, in bamboo huts. The trepang, would be purely preserved. taking medium quality trepang which was in abundance in australia, then preserving it very well, to get top dollar.

a trade that the british wanted.
