What I was also thinking was in renting a car, there are a lot of instructions at google in how to arrive to Hamburg and to HOA but I don't know if I can rent a car at Leipzig airport and return it at Hamburg one.

If you go to Herz or Avis, you might be able to do so. They're national operating. But you may have to pay a supplement. Just send a mail to them, explaining the situation.
