Metal is growing in popularity here a little, mainly because of Metal Core. Some Metalcore fans branch out into other metal sub-genres.

yea, that's how it started for me...
although I never really got into it that hard, I moved pretty quickly into thrash and power metal, and after that, everywhere else. :D

Very similar to my Nephew, he started out with some metalcore and numetal, then got into Maiden, Slayer, Sabbath etc. etc. The good thing about Metalcore and MuMetal is they are starting points, introductions to metal in a way for many young fans, so in that way they are a good thing I think. I do like a little Metalcore, no NuMetal though.

Lamb Of God and Shadows Fall are good IMO. so are several songs by Unearth and Killswitch Engage. But KE get boring for me real fast. Lamb Of God are by far the best IMO.

yea, exactly.
I like just a little metalcore and numetal now... I've pretty much moved completely out of that.

Yep, so I would not put Metalcore down, my only complaint with it is most of it all sounds the same. I like some of the riffs and Thrash elements, but I don't care for most of the vocalists. Lamb Of God's vocals are not typical Metalcore, and their music is heavier and nastier than the typical MC band. The vocals are what wear on me with Killswitch.

yea, I agree... metalcore vocals are mostly crap.
which is why I don't like Shadows Fall that much.
Lamb of God are a decent band imo, but I don't listen to them.
and Killswitch is basically crap.

Similarly, Soilwork and Darkane to name two bands that were similar to early In Flames have gotten weaker with later releases. DARKANE's Rusted Angel CD is killer. But they went down hill after that. The same with SOILWORK. Chainheart Machine and Steelbath Suicide are very good, after that they went down hill
