Although pretty much all of southern california is burning - that is, from about 30 miles south of here, all the way to the mexico border, we in Santa Barbara are not burning (yet).

Smoke is in the air, my allergies are going crazy, 500,000 people have been evacuated from their homes, and hundreds of houses have burned down.

It's pretty fucking sad. And although Ahnold has declared a state of emergency, releasing extra state funds for several counties (including mine), good ol' Bush has just declared a national state of emergency as of today. It will probably take 3 days for federal relief to arrive, and by then the fires will probably be dealt with.

And we see by this fire Bush' priorities. In New Orleans, he did nothing in the beginning, now that big money (=voters) are concerned, he's jumping with help. And to know that some parts of New Orleans are again overfloated, let's see his reaction again now! (I don't expect much of it, as N.O. is not filled with lots of money)
