i don't know... but i've seen many great tours skip portugal and they all blame the promotors for being lazy. never had a paganfest here in portugal with big bands like you american had there... it's something that is still missing here in portugal because all the rest of the countries (specially germany and scandinavia for obvious reasons) had already big tours with that kind of bands. still sucks how in here, in my opinion, people prefer to see countless times metallica and slipknot

We have Metallica and Slipknot touring a lot too. To top it off, around here the kids that like those bands end up coming to see bands like Korpiklaani and Turisas and end up causing problems.

Is it possible the scene just isn't too large in Portugal?

i don't know... we don't have many people liking pagan metal, in here it's more metallica and sons if you know what i mean (slipknot, machine head, mastodon) stuff like that, not my case altough. somehow it's good that people don't care about pagan metal because those bands hit a target audience that is faithfull to them and don't attract fools that don't understand the music. on the other hand, it's bad because they don't get the diserved credit for being great original bands with something to show and to open up some minds in metal that think that agression and blood is all that we see. since i'm more in heavy metal classic and pagan metal... you can see that most of the bands that people like here, are not my favorite.

At least over there it's not like we have here.

With Paganfest 1, which kind of was the one of the first real tours with the pagan metal bands here, they kind of went and promoted the show to the people who are into Slipknot, Metallica, and even hardcore and emo kids and now those sort are now turning to pagan metal as part of their trend. I don't know if they really even like the music or if they're just there to cause problems, but I've broken 2 bones thanks to them and I nearly had my shoulder pulled out at Paganfest. Only one of those times was I even in the mosh pit.

I'm personally into Pagan/Viking metal and I have a tendency to follow my friends to thrash shows. I like thrash a bit, but I seldom listen to it on my own.

that's why worries me... when bands start to attract audience that only listen to them because they're on the rise, because they're cool in the moment, because they're some kind of fashion... then we the all followers get a bit screwed by those jerks that come give a bad ambient to the movement, turning a good thing to follow into something not that good to feel related too.

Yea.

That's kind of why I've been getting more into the more underground bands. They seldom tour here, but the few times they do it's a great show.

I'm kind of hoping the trend dies fast. And on the bright side, it's not as difficult for you to leave Portugal to surrounding countries to see bands, while if I were to travel to Canada it'd be a lot more difficult. We need passports to go to Canada now.

i only go to wacken this year. would like to go to metalcamp in slovenia but don't have enough money so outside portugal ther's only wacken to me, then in portugal 4 days after wacken, vagos open air: amon amarth, dark tranquillity, katatonia and more but these 3 worth it for me. i'm not that deep into underground... just deep into some styles like classic heavy metal or pagan metal. the others i listen what i can catch up. never was a big fan of black metal or death metal for example.

I like black metal, but I'm very very particular with it. I haven't ever got into death metal at all though.

Most pagan metal bands with exception of those who tour with Paganfest are considered underground here.

what bands are still underground from paganfest?

None that went on paganfest really are underground still. Our paganfest is smaller than the European version though.

I'm talking mostly about like Manegarm, and other bands like that.

Yes

I need to get Finsterfrost's albums though. So many albums I need to get, so little time and money. I refuse to illegally download.

finsterforst i only got the last one. it's great to go on the bus to work and listen to then while you see the landscape and the fields. equilibrium for me it's one of the greatest new bands in metal, not only in pagan metal, but in metal.

Equilibrium's probably the best band for me to listen to at work. Most of the time lately, seeing things are slow, I end up bored and need something to keep me awake.

I'm hoping to see them live sooner than later. I heard a rumor they might be going to Wacken but I'm not really putting my money on it.
