was talking to my band/percussion director just yesterday btw
apparently there are two ways to play the timpani... American and German

American: big/lower pitched drums on left, small/high pitched on right
German is opposite
learned it American... but the college I'm probably going to does it German
going to confuse me trying to relearn it

Haha... back when I was a band nerd me and one of the other drummers always used to argue about that. I do it the German way though.
