well that makes sense then. My Mac at home is over 8 years old and has been so solid and dependable. My wife has been through 3 PCs in the same amount of time.

we've got this annoying anti-virus program that actually noticeably slows down the computer...
and it updates and checks stuff multiple times a day...
sooo like, I'll be sitting here and the computer will be going slower than normal, and then I'll get a pop up that says "spyware scan complete" or something, and then it'll go faster

Yep, with PCs you have to do that. You must use protection. I use none on my Mac, and never have any problems.
