I've found that 192 works very well.

But I don't use MP3, I use AIC (MP4) It's still a smaller file but better sound quality.

Well it looks likes it's set to AAC, but there is an option for mp3 as well. Don't have a clue what AAC is tho.

No, you can manually type in other bit rates, not just the few pre-set options.

AAC is Apple's default in itunes, from what I've been told it is MP4 format. It is normally set at 128 by default, I raise it to 192.

Hm...after doing some comparing I gotta say I can barely tell the difference. If anything the 256 sounds ever so slightly more clear, but that might just be my mind trying to find a difference...I'm using some proper headphones too, Sony MDR-7506's.
