Parents do meddle with one's affairs. It's their job, and most of the time they do it out of concern, and not just to annoy. Reminds me a bit of the saying

Tell them about your plans, and make it clear that you're dead serious about them, or they'll just assume you're making threats. Running away abroad at a young age can be quite tricky business, and sometimes it's nice to have support from back home. As for your (under-)weight problems, how tall are you? If you're 6'1" or taller, 66 kg is a bit at the low end.

I'm about 5'11", and they would not support me should anything come up abroad. The one with the purse-strings is as cheap as the summer days in Iceland are long, and I exaggerate not .

They do not currently pay for anything, so I could easily make a mad dash when the lease expires...it is just what happens afterwards that becomes the problem.

Afraid not. I was the first grandson to my father's parents, as for my mother's, they are all over the place...I will see what can be done, though. My current job arrangement is contingent upon me being within the States, it keeps the paperwork simple, but its disadvantages have begun to shown themselves.
