i thought 'pinkie' was the appropriate term, rather than just 'pink'.

That I do not know.
And I use pink in Dutch. Don't know in other languages.

It's pinky or pinkie in english (though comes from dutch apparently), just so you know.. wouldn't want any misunderstandings
