Not always. Some jokes can't be translated, so they translate "an other joke". It's sometimes annoying.

I think what Quark means is the translators think up a completely different joke. This happens in the german version of the Simpsons a lot and moreso in Family Guy (which is why FG in german is simply not funny cause they have to change all the jokes and their writers aren't as good.)

Exactly.
And for Dutch programs it's not that bad, if you understand English enough without using subtitles, but for dubbed versions it can be a pain in the ass. (e.g. German & French versions)

No, I think it's more personal taste.
I find the humor sometimes to be too lame. Too much over the top. But that's MY opinion. (and hearing the original version of course)
