You can also use the "friend lists" thing they have to make it so only certain people can see you online. That's what I do.

It works.
Got like 4 lists, and one of them has NO ACCESS at all to my info. (bands etc.) Yet, they're my 'friends'.
And all others cannot chat with me. Except one list.
