edit: The subject comes before the verb anyways...forget that top part.

but in the above sentence "Ich kann nicht Deutsch sprechen" you have a helping verb "can", and so the "speak" goes at the very end of the sentence.

Literally, "i can not german speak"

The subject is not always in front of the word: Deutsch spreche ich nicht. e.g.

But it's an inversion to put the pronounciation on what you don't speak and rarely used.

You can try to ear some money though and just take the rest from me that you didn't make in time. So it's not that much and you needn't feel bad about it
