La question qui se pose, QUEL Français ? Le Français français (belge, luxembourgeois, suisse) ou le Français québecois ? :D

Putin de merde ! :ugly:

Hahaha yeah.. So are you telling me that it's only in Quebec that they base curses on the church? I didn't know that - I thought it was a French thing..something to do with the English trying to subjugate the religion or something like that. Maybe it's just here.

Actually, I don't know.
Here (in BELGIUM) someone can be called a "pig" (cochon), pute / putin de merde (gender related of course), fils d'une pute (fille, but rare) like the "sun of a bitch" in English but things like "(au) nom du dieu", "nondedju" (Belgisism!!!), "nom d'un chien" are common. (and "merde" or "zut")

And there is a big difference between French (EU, with their Belgicisms, helvetisms included) and Québec. Though the basic language is the same, you might end up not understanding each other, due to different meanings of one and the same word. (in written, for facility's sake :D)

I've heard those too..when you are insulting someone it's different than just a general curse - like if you hit your hand with a hammer or something. In english you'd say "FUCK!" in French (Quebec) you would say "CALLIS!" (which is chalice, referring to the cup used by Christ) or "TABERNAC" ( the tabernacle, where the priest stands in the church)

I already know that lol I don't understand half the people around here because they don't speak Parisian French - which is what we learned in school in the west.

Never heard of those here. Must be Québecois then.

I'll ask later. ;)

I have ONE Québecois in my FB friends list, and when he writes in French, I can understand him. Since he's not yet been here (EU), I don't know what it sounds like, I'll probably have to wait until you 2 are here. :D

I speak proper French :p You will have a hard time understanding my boyfriend though because he has the typical Quebec accent - so much so that the last time we came to France the people switch to English rather than to try to speak French with him.
