I'm hoping a friendly smile and a beer will help. Of course I need to find a good beer that I can drink. Pretty hard to get German beer here and I don't even know what brands are popular there.

The "problem" is, almost every region has its own beer.
But national beers are e.g. Warsteiner, Krombacher, Beck's (all pilsners).

You'll probably have one sort of beer in the train itself, if it contains a bar.

Hey guys! I just jumped in and read only the last page so far. Weeeeell.

On german trains you mostly have "Warsteiner", which is a Pilsener (or "Pils" in short). Warsteiner is pretty much okay with most people, while there's always a discussion if the big beer breweries do make good beer after all. In general, no one denies a Pils on a train anyway. :)

Be careful if you get into a train calles "Metronom". There are several trains of local railway societies in which you are not allowed to drink alcohol.

Well, if you're looking for help or a little chat, most of the metal looking folks will love to have a little chat in English, whether they can actually speak the language or not. I think this has changed over the past 10 to 15 years, there're a lot more people who like speaking in foreign languages they know. This was much worse a decade ago.
No need for beer here, a smile will do it. :D

Could be that some fucking youngsters in their hip clothes or gangster rapper outfit or some other poser shit will not give a fuck, but hey, we know that kind of lads, right? :D

Since when is Warsteiner on (IC/E) trains?
I always thought it was Beck's!

And we're actually talking about the Metal-Train ;) (a direct from Stuttgart to Itzehoe to get to Wacken)

Okaaaay, I have absolutely no idea what's going on on the metal train. :D

Has Deutsche Bahn switched to Beck'S? When was that? It was more or less always Warsteiner, as far as I know.

Well, at least as from 2011! And maybe earlier, but now you got me troubled here.

Either Beck's pilsner or Paulaner Weizen (white beer)
And the so called "Zug Cafés" (in certain RE's) are closed!

So when people go to buy beer there..what do they buy?

Where?

On the train? I don't know. Private train, you will see. (mostly pils)
At the supermarket? You have more choice! It's what you like. And I do not know your taste.
Infield in Wacken? Beck's.

But you'll have to see what's available in cans. Can't bring in glass, they'll check at the entrance.
And German cans have deposit. 25cts per can! (€urocents)

Every supermarket of a reasonable size has tons of sorts of beers. Just buy some to try them out. ;)
You should try at least one Pils, one Weizen (or Weißbier), one Dunkles like Alt or Flensburger Dunkel...
Yeah, Faxe or Heineken is always good.
A very very good lager beer is the (Czech!!) Budweiser (Budvar).

Names! yes! thank you! I was hoping to have some idea what brands of beer are there so maybe I have some hope of knowing what to even ask for ;) Last time we were there we got some guy selling us a pink beer - I guess it was a 'girl's beer', was ok but my boyfriend was really embarrassed to be walking around with it and we were hoping to avoid anything like that again this time ;)
