Sometimes I think my job consists largely of thinking for people.

Situations like that are extremely common.

I might know a lot about electronics in general and the different kinds (laptops, tablets, TVs etc) but I rarely know anything about the specific product in question, so nine times out of ten, I don't know any more about that thing than you do. I just read the box and then tell you what it says.

"I don't actually know what that does , but if we look at the help files here.. ah there you are.." LOL

Of course, people aren't generally technically inclined and need me to explain what something means - what RAM is, what Android 4.0 is, etc.

All in all though, if people stopped asking stupid questions and didn't ask me to think for them, I think my job would suddenly become half as busy.

Pretty much lol. If it turns out the box doesn't have all the answers and they really need to know, I usually pull out my phone and google it.

Same goes for helping solve friends' computer problems. Google. And then they think I'm a genius...
