70K Before Wacken 2013

So...there are 22 native German speakers on my facespace, plus an additional 3 who can (to the best of my knowledge) speak it fluently, and at least one other who is learning. A couple have expressed that they'd like me to learn, so why no-one teach me

I suppose I could start by learning this pocket dictionary (that I've had for like 12 years) from cover to cover...

But...

One I met from Headbangers who seemed to struggle with his English was forever saying "argh...learn German" and "when I take over the world, everyone will speak German" Another I met at Wacken a couple of times, said the next time I come to visit I should speak fluent German so the group don't have to talk in English, even though most of them spoke amazing English. To the point when they'd ask questions about the language (i.e. which term is more correct etc.) and I'd be like I dunno.

That happens to me a lot. Every time I find someone who speaks another language they all want to just practice English at least I can speak a few words in German but not much past 'baby talk'.

I'm much the same. I tried really hard to see if I could understand phrases without having to ask people to speak in English for me. Sometimes I could, but I had no clue how to respond in German most of the time so I just spoke in English then they replied back in English

No, my boyfriend threatens to do this to me all the time the problem is I UNDERSTAND it. I just have no confidence to speak it. People speak French to me all the time. I just answer in English - They can answer in French too when I speak English. Does not bother me. In fact it would be perfect and the way it's SUPPOSED to be that everyone can speak whatever language they prefer but that's not good enough for people here.
