We got a small safe-box in the backyard with code-lock and a key in it. Never really needed it though.

I dunno what it was. It wouldn't matter if the garage would open like it's supposed to. But it didn't. My mom said they recently replaced something with the garage or the remote opener thingies, and the electricity didn't go out (could tell because the clocks didn't reset).

All new to me. We don't have electrical garages nor do our garages lead into the house

I could. But since it's rare - this has been like the first time I've been locked out without some other way to get in, like a back door left unlocked - I probably won't bother.

Ah okay, besides the thing in the backyard we only have a front door to get in. And getting to the backyard without going through the house can be a bother.

I've gotten in through the back door multiple times. The front door is usually locked, the back upstairs door is pretty much always locked, but the back ground floor door is almost always left unlocked. I was surprised it wasn't.
