it's not correct vs. incorrect, because none of it is incorrect. It's just that when you write a person you can't (really) express your respect towards someone. Giving the forms of adress capitals shows that you respect that person. Why do you think you have to write "Sie" with a capital? Because it's an enormiously respectful way of talking to someone. And if you ever try to do some official thing in Germany, the capitals are leaving a good impression.

I'm tired of arguing, trying to decide who's right and who's wrong about every little thing we disagree about, because neither of us will admit we're wrong... though I at least know I made some mistakes, but I know better now...
but not the point. this is going to go on until we either come to an agreement, which I doubt will happen, or we could just drop it and move on...
because honestly I don't want to lose you as a friend or anything... I'm not trying to hurt you, believe it or not. I still want to help.

like I could come on here and be like, 'good day to you, sir/madam'... and that's nice and respectful, sure, but unnecessary

For me it's like this, I promised you to take care of you if you ever got in trouble while being in Europe and I am going to keep this promise. So if you're being over here and need someone really badly, I'm there (though I'm sure you don't need me because you have enough others). Besides that I'm not going to talk to you about shit anymore, because you didn't respect my conditions about talking to you and if I'm trying to help you, you attack me. if you needed it to be formal you would use "Sie" anyways, so that's not the point. If you say "Du", you know that person already anyways. But if you write it with a capital that implies that you also care for the person and respect the person. But I should have known that you think showing respect towards a friend is "unnecessary". All of you is just always "whatever works". And sure, right... "du" "works" too. So do "whatever works" if you don't give a fuck about anything deeper than that
