For some older people, it's very hard to embrace new ideas, different ways of thinking, he may be like that, it's not a thing he choses, just the way he is. He may not show it as much as he should, but I'm sure that he loves you very much. But as you said, for some people, it's hard to show affection.

well yea.. I know his family. It's probably true that he's embarrassed about showing love... like for a good bye he's shake his children's hands  But at least I know by now, that he's having respect for me again. That's already worth a lot

.

It's not hard to him at all, because he doesn't care ;) And he's really popular anyways. He's a great guy, mostly people hate him for being so great and yet having such a 'bad' taste in music :p Well, he knows better ;)

Well it sounds that maybe some of those people may be just jealous of him, that's sad, but it sounds like he has things together for himself and I respect his choice to be his own person and not follow the popular way.

yea, same here... he's one of the persons that I do have the most respect for for his mindset... only thing is that he doesn't get his life in order, which is sad... probably a problem of lazyness. I don't know

I don't think they're jealous though. It's more like they all like him so much but they can't sort out how to possibly like someone that listens to such music  They're not open minded and probably also not intelligent enough to see that none of the music he listens to is meant any serious :p
so you have two brothers? Any sisters?
I have three brothers ;) You got to know the third one in Wacken. He's 30 I think

Yes very much. I read some books on German culture before coming to Wacken in 2003. I read about this so I would not do things that are offensive or be offended by anything. The books said that Germans, mainly the older ones are very traditional, and business like in public, they don't show emotions and affection and things like that in everyday life like at work and things. So it may just be that your dad is just very traditional, especially at 61. though those books may be incorrect as well.

OK, yeah I remember. He does not post in the forum right? Well I think that your brother seems to handle the situation quite well.

well about nowaday's society those books are pretty incorrect... I don't think that nowadays people are still any shy in this kind of stuff. Of course we're by far not as cordial as some other cultures, but I don't think that we do any much of a difference to other industrial cultures (yet to America)

Yeah, when I read that book, I did realize that the information in there could be out of date or maybe just one person's opinion, and not accurate. And after all, I have German heritage in my family past, my ancestors.
