I would say, try to get ahold of a german childrens book and see what you can do with that...one semester of german will let you know the basic, basic structure of things, but if you go ahead on your own, you'd be surprised how far you can get.

Also i just got super lucky, got hired at a german restaurant, the owner and the cook are both germans, so i should be able to get some practice out of that...thing is they don't know i'm leaving the country in a few months so i don't know how overt i should be with the german speaking =/
