There's a rule now for how much weight you may have in carry-on luggage.

So I am taking my backpack, but I don't want to have to check my tent / sleeping bag (because then, I'll have to wait for them).

Maybe I can bind them together with a rope & scrunch them into the overhead compartment? Hummm.
