Am Freitag fand in Turku der finnische Vorentscheid unter 12 Teilnehmern statt. Dabei siegten Lordi mit dem Titel "Hard Rock Hallelujah".
Die Hardrock- und Metalband siegte mit über 20.000 Stimmen Vorsprung und 42,2 % über Tomi Metsäkedon (28,5 %) und Annika Eklund (12,3 %). Insgesamt gingen bei YLE 160.000 Telefonanrufe und SMS ein.

Ins Superfinale der sechs Kandidaten hatten es zuvor Annika Eklund, Kilpi, Jane, Lordi, Jennie und Tomi Metsäketo geschafft.

Lordi bestehen aus Bandleader Tomi Putaansuu, genannt Lordi, Amen (Gitarre), Kita (Schlagzeug), Ox (Bass) und Awa (Keyboard). Der musikalische Stil der Band liegt zwischen Hardrock und Metal. Lordi sind auch außerhalb Finnlands vor allem auf Grund ihrer ungewöhnlichen Monster- und Horrorkostüme bekannt. In Deutschland schafften sie es mit dem Album "The Monsterican Dream" Mitte 2004 sogar in die Verkaufscharts.

Monsterirockin ruhtinas Lordi lähtee edustamaan Suomea vuoden 2006 Eurovision laulukilpailuihin Ateenaan toukokuussa.

Lordin esittämä Hard Rock Hallelujah keräsi Suomen karsinnan finaalin toisella äänestyskierroksella rekisteröidyistä puhelin- ja tekstiviestiäänistä 42,2% eli 67 369 kappaletta.

Suomen edustusviisun on säveltänyt ja sanoittanut Mr Lordi. Sovituksen tekoon on osallistunut koko bändi.

I got the impression they did from the Swedish newspaper where I read it, but then that paper shouldn't be trusted really
