Well first off, no German university is going to take a US student fresh out of high school, as a normal student, I am pretty sure of that. It just has to do with their rules or whatever. What that means is that you can't just go there and only be enrolled at that German university.

What you can do, to get around that, is go through a special program like I am doing right now. I go to the university, but I'm not a regular student, there is a limited class selection I can choose from, and you take a slightly lower course load than the normal students. Which is actually cool, because that gives your more time to go around and explore. Plus, I'm still here in Germany and since I'm in this program, a lot of things are taken care of for me, like I have my own free private tutor for my classes that are given in German. Also I had 6 weeks of pure language instruction before beginning actual classes.

So if you want to do your whole course of studies at a German Uni I am pretty sure that's not possible, until you do 2 years or so at a US one first. But you can always get away for a semester or 2 through a program like mine (see www.abroadco.com if you're interested)

OR an option that I would highly recommend over my program is going through Rotary International and doing a 'Home Stay' where you actually live with a family. Your German will improve much faster and, best of all, they will FEED AND HOUSE YOU! :D So a whole lot cheaper. I don't have experience with that, but a friend of mine spent a year in Switzerland through their program and she said it was the greatest thing ever.

As far as language knowledge goes, you already know a good deal more than half the other Americans I am here with. A lot of, if not all, Uni's offer courses held in English if you're too nervous about taking ones in German. But if you try really hard and study a lot, and only speak German while you're here, your skills will improve so much honestly.

So if you really wanted to get away this September, I think a program like mine is your only option, although it might not be too late to apply Rotary. If I remember right they like you to apply something like 9 months in advance but I'm not sure.

I think thats everything...any Q's?
