music tests? as in playing tests? I almost always got 99s on those...
or else I was disappointed in myself
and I dunno about physics, but I did really well in chemistry actually

No, not playing tests. It's about analyzing music.... Writing texts about it.

ah that sucks... and isn't really what music is supposed to be about, imo
it's not like some math formula or physics concept or something, it's just music... a creative art... it's not supposed to be analyzed like you would with other scientific, logic-based stuff. I mean sure, if you were to write a piece of music, you have to know about chord structures and stuff like that... but otherwise... it's supposed to be free, if you know what I mean.
'cut me some slack' is like a slangish phrase to mean like 'give me a break', 'don't expect too much', etc
