it can make you so sure that you definitely lifted your hand and pinched or slapped yourself, but in reality you didn't do anything besides snore on!

well in my philosophy class a few semesters ago, we began with the premise that at any moment in time you cannot be positive that you are not dreaming. because when you are dreaming you are often not aware that you are. and then we construct the concept of reality and the self from there.
