I hear for Wacken Open Air ...last midnight in EMP magazine...
Wow. I was excited! So many damn good bands. And of course we start talk about visiting this ‘2002 thing, ya! ;-) The biggest thing I ever seen before was Metallica in my town – Plovdiv, Bulgaria (11,September 1999) It was exiting!!! (Well, Metallica is not good as it was in early dark 90’s ;-) So now we probably want to get some really good show there. The most that interest us is – the prices…of all.. The ticket as we know is 50-55 Euro – That’s is not a problem – we’ll get it ;-). We most need info for other things – we can’t use a car – probably will come with a bus from Bulgaria. So we need more info for bus tickets (city bus), what we must bring there (probably a tint?) Is it ok to bring food and drinks? (in FAQ- I see ‘Yes’ but what about alcohol? ;-) How is protection of camping tints? I mean can I bring my GSM there? ;-) Well we don’t use drugs – so we will not be enemy with security guys ;-))))
Where is Wacken? Which part of country? Well if we know where is Wacken we can get some maps from Internet of course ;-) I have many other questions….but after these ;-) Probably in this forum we can meet some friendly guys…and to meet them there?

Greeting from Brasil….ops…Bulgaria (Well, I’m a big Sepultura fan! (old Sepultura of course ;-)

try the links on the left side of this page. At the link 'journey' you can see where Wacken is (50 km NW of Hamburg) and how to travel there.
Security is no problem at Wacken. If you don't make problems you've got nothing to worry about. I think it's save enough to bring your GSM with you. I don't think that people will steal anything out of your tent but I think you'd better don't leave valuable things in your tent when nobody is around. Take it with you or put it in your car. You never know....

We're looking for some transport to Germany - because in Bulgaria ...noone will want to organize trip to Germany for W:O:A ...nevermind...we'll try to make everything possible...to get there...

I had my money and my cellular in the tent during night or with me when I was out, license, money and passport in my car. Nothing was stolen over those days and I didn't expericence any kind of violence. It's really quite save to come there.

cheers guys!

sounds like a big journey... If possible get some kind of connection to germany - bus/train/whatever.
I dont know how long you want to stay/ when you want to arrive, but if you´d come the weekend before wacken starts - 27/28 Juli you could travel through germany via train with the so called week end ticket. It´s maximum 20 Euro and five people can travel on one ticket for a whole day! okay, you can`t use the fast trains, but you have saturday and sunday time.
If you´re worried about arriving to wacken too early, no problem. I know that you can stay on the camp site anyway, they don´t mind if you´re from far away!
About getting to Wacken. The biggest city nearby is Hamburg, from there you travel on by train to Itzehoe. Thats the nearest train station to Wacken. During the week there are regular buses to wacken from Itzehoe, (during the festival also at the weekend) but if you´d be there on the 27/28 you´d have to take a taxi or minibus - not very expensive!

Hope I could help... if you have any questions , just feel free to contact me, I lived up there quite a while!

Long live..good beer ;-)

Hi aborted,

10x for the tips...i really appreciate it ..and all of you brothers and sisters...As i said our main problem will be money because some of us are students some other must to work.. you know how it is ;-)))) We probably will not come so early because of the same reason..so we'll not use this 'weekend ticket'. In fact i'll really love to travell all "Samstag and Sonntag thru Germay" i was been in Germany only once - 1989' - i was only 8 years old and don't remember much...except one german beauty named 'Veronica' that we meet in some villa in Hungary (she was on jorney too) ;-)))) Probably she is on my age now / or 1-2 years bigger..i don't remember ;-)))))) So..about WOA... we'll use the most less expensive way..probably bus...and train....after that... ;-)
Well...whe have some questions about the food and drinks - i mean ..is it better to get them from Bulgaria or to buy there from Itzehoe for example...- can you give me some price examples (bread, fruits, meat, beer, vodka) ? Sorry for stupid questions..but as i say...that is FAQ between us ;-) And can someone give me what is the price of ticket from Berlin to Hamburg? By train or by bus?
10x in advance again to all trying help us ;-)

morning!

if you´re looking for a cheap way from berlin to hamburg I´d take the bus. there´s a special one , really cheap. one tour 22euro, if you book a return tour its around 30/35 euro. check out this site: http://www.zugbus.de/linienbus_hamber2.htm
if you have problems translating something, tell me.

you can do your shopping directly in wacken, there is a supermarket there (there is also a small one on the camp ground, but more expensive, eventhough if you dont want to walk into the village its very handy!). In your case I´d buy the stuff here, I mean do you really want to cary all your food and drink as well, next to tents and stuff??
prices for beer are from extra cheap (in germany) 30 cent for 0,5l beer can up to 1 euro or more.
the cheapest vodka is availlable for 6/7 euros a bottle.
fruit I really cant say.
meat - what kind? you can buy ready packed beef or pork for barbeque, thats the cheapest and it tastes great (price, no idea!)
bread doesn´t cost much either. from 70 cent to 1 euro if you buy it in a supermarket!
I hope these prices are approximatley right, I dont go shopping a lot for food (only drink ;-)) ).

Last year I had a deal with a few guys from sweden. They told me what to buy and sent me the money (it was quite a lot f shopping!), I bought it in advance and took it along in my car. If you want I could get some of your stuff as well - at least drinks, as that doesnt go bad (meat, bread and fruit you better buy fresh).

okay, gotta go. hope this helps!

see ya

Housewife speaking...hehe...:D
no, I´m not a housewife, but I go shopping quite often, also for food. Maybe I can help a little more.
BTW, I guess there is vodka for 4-5 EUR, too. Orange juice (maybe you want to mix your vodka?) is about 0,80 EUR for 1,5 litre.
Cheapest wine for 1 EUR a litre I guess (but not very good wine indeed). Better wine (on my opinion) is from 2 EUR for 0,75 litre up to 5-6 EUR.
Apples are about 0,70 EUR for 1 Kilo, bananas about 2 EUR a kilo, both maybe less. I also like to bring paprika (3 paprika=about 1 EUR) stuffed with cheese (the cheapest cheese is about 3,50 EUR a kilo), delicious for barbeque! Fruit and vegetable prices depend on the season, it´s cheaper in summer. The cheapest thing to have for bbq are potatoes, I guess you can get 2,5 kilos for 1 EUR. Some ketchup you can buy for about 0,80 EUR a bottle.
I don´t eat very much meat, only chicken and turkey... the cheapest chicken you get also for 3,50 EUR a kilo (but then it was an unhappy chicken ;)) Other meat shouldn´t be more expensive, also sausages, rather cheaper.
I just checked the websites of some supermarkets, but they have no prices online... but I guess you have an imagination now.
Prices for fast-food at the festival itself are rather expensive, by the way.
Hope that helps!

;-)

Thanks aborted and xpet...it really help us...
It seems that the prices are exactly (or twice) like ours ;-)
Here one vodka is 3-4 lv (1 lv= 0.5 Euro)
One box of juice (1.5l) is like there - 1.6 lv.
The wine are same prices - standart - 2 leva..better - up to 10 lv.
Yes...beer and all other things are only twice expensive than here...we can handle that ;-) So we'll not bring food and drinks from here - we'll buy'em there.....my gosh..i was scared how we'll bring all that stuff...i mean ..food and drinks for 3 days... ;-))))
Hhaha i laughted a lot at potatoes...i mean ...they are cheap here too.....and probably we'll bring there some frying pan to make for us mini-McDonalds service..eh..? ;-))))))))))
Well we may now go looking for a tent from some friends....i have the feeling that we'll get there with some military tent ;-)))))))))))
Yes..it is easier to find here ;-) Haha so much fun...
Bye for now.... ;-)))

10q aborted and xpet...you're very nice to me...

I'll be around... ;-)

ok I have a question about food...

I can't drink normal milk. In Australian we have a lactose-free milk (usually kept on the shelf not fridge).

Is there such a thing in Germany? I can't find the word 'lactose' (the natural sugar found in milk) in my German dictionary.

Does anyone know what the translation is?

Otherwise I'm going to have to drink soy milk and that's awful! :)

I'm bringing some non-dairy coffee whitener with me for emergencies, but hopefully there will be "real" stuff I can drink.

Danke

oh and thanks again xpet for you invaluable food information! Aussie bbqs are looking good! hahaha
