As a whole group of us are coming from Australia we're not going to be able to bring our camping gear with us.

Does anyone where we can find camping equipment to hire? Probably from around Hamburg, Itzehoe or somewhere close by?

Does anyone else have any suggestions/tips for camping at Wacken?

Danke, gracias, spasibo, graci, thank you :D

yeah, I´d just buy cheap ones over here. there only 30/40 DM if you´re lucky!
But buy the right ones! A friend of mine came from New Zealand and bought what he thought was a tent! In fact it was a "Strandmuschel" - kind of half a tent to shelter you from the wind at the beach.... ;-)))

I agree...
Buy a cheap tent there..

Maybe someone picked up the tents that as left from last year, and have them for sale?
A guy in Denmark did that after the Midtfyns festival 2000- I as really happy about it, 'cause i could use my tent one more year. He had it for sale. :)

tents & stuff

We're thinking of taking our hiking tents with us as they weigh only a couple of kilograms but we were hoping to have a communal shelter where we can sit & relax at night and not have to worry about rain.

Plus we need cooking stuff-I can't live on junk food for 3 days. It's the quickest way to get very sick which I don't want to do with the amount of travel I will be doing after Wacken...and I need my morning coffee before I can do ANYTHING! :D

Does anyone know of any discount camping equipment shops in Hamburg so we can buy the stuff there?

I tried looking up on yahoo, but none of them seem to be on the net.

After the music is over, you're always welcome to join in at our camp. Experience tells me that we won't be the first to fall asleep.. If we do get some sleep that is.. :))
Just got to hope that there's no big names on before 12.00 in the morning. :)

you're all too kind! Thanks Kroppus!

This is going to be so good-just like a scouts camp but with no curfews and mixed sleeping arrangements :D heheh

But can you handle 13 very loud Australians? hahahah

I think most of us will be socialising and trying to meet as many people from Europe as possible plus we'll also be on a roll after Rock Machina.

13 very loud Australians shouldn´t be a problem, we are used to hundreds of extremely loud Scandinavians... ;)

And if your Scoutcamps are like Wacken, then I should think about going to Australia to become a Scout :D

Feyhach: Just to warn you. The scandinavians you've heard so far are rather calm and quiet compared to us. :)

Brat: We're all from the middle of Norway, and we are recond to be amongst the most hospitable people of Norway. At least as long as they are willing to drink with us. If they refus, we might get a bit upset about them. Nothing is more insulting than refusing a drink offered from a Trønder. :) It's even worse than saying shit about the closest family. If what you say about the family is true, we tend to agree to it.

You have all been warned.
Apart from that we're a nice bunch of people.
At least we think so.
:)

@ brat
for buying Camping equipment in Hamburg I´d go to the big supermarktes like Wal Mart or Toom. I dont know any camping equipment discounters here, and the camping equipment stores I know are rather expensive. But that big supermarkets (also department stores like Karstadt etc.) should be selling cheap tents and barbeque equipment/cooking stuff during the whole year. If you want I can tell you how to find some of the shops here in Hamburg.
Itzehoe has a Karstadt, too, but I dont know if they sell camping equipment. You can also try at OBI or Wandmaker at Itzehoe.
And coffee is always sold at the festival in the morning ;)

A guided tour through Hamburg would be much more interesting in my opinion! It is a GREAT city! I have only been there once when i was 14 but it was really really nice!
